Around two years back, when we welcomed our GasGas 350 to the family, we did the correct thing – and fitted some protective gear.
One of the chosen products was this Skid Plate by Acerbis.
Acerbis Off-Road Skid Plates are moulded from polypropylene and are shaped to protect not only the underside of the engine and frame rails but also ignition and water pump covers against those annoying lurkers that you often clip as you make your way across the trails.
Ours also has a separate little cover that protects the linkage.
Polypropylene is light, does not vibrate and does not retain heat. The material is also easy to drill for extra cooling and all that – and, it does not dent.
Fitment is really simple – a molded lip hooks the frame behind the engine while a single bolt attaches the front of the plate to a supplied steel bracket. And it’s quick and simple to remove for maintenance and when you clean the bike.
The skid plate is custom made to snugly contour the bike, reducing the available room for mud and dirt to collect between the plate and all the other bits. There is also a handy custom cutout for the oil drain bolt.
The plates are available in ready to fit kit form for most popular makes and models…
Our bikes spend most of their time out and about, bashing through rocks and bushes. Innumerable scratches and marks due to a lack of talent bear testimony to the work that the plate has done – and it is still perfect.
And, more importantly, so is the bike…
It’s a great product for sure. If you are looking at protective goodies for your bike, this is one product that is well worth considering.
Ours cost around R1400.00
