CFMOTO has established quite the reputation for versatile ATV’s and UTV’’s. This is their four seater, the ZFORCE 950 SPORT-4.
It’s been a while since we last got to ride – or is that – drive a Side By Side. The beauty of this one is the fact that there is enough space for the whole family including Grandad and even Bheki the dog!
Seatbelts are compulsory – even if your passenger doesn’t buckle up, she’ll only get up to 18kph. More safety bits include the doors as standard, a roof for shade and a sturdy frame that should keep things in check in case of a clatter.
You get low range, high range and reverse with 4WD of course for those gnarlier climbs.
It’s all displayed on a gorgeous little TFT screen in front of the driver.
There’s a big cubby built into the passengers dash, so you can stash your goodies and keep it all dry. The back boasts an enormous “Bak” so you can load lots of stuff on your day to day chores.
This is certainly not just a sports UTV, it easily doubles as a pretty quick workhorse.
Throw in some beautiful upholstery, comfy race seats, long travel suspension and big alloy wheels shod in 29″ 8 ply tyres and you have the recipe for an absolute hoot.
And hoot is quite possibly an understatement.
Start her up, select drive, Jam your foot down and the automatic 85hp 963cc V-Twin fuel injected engine hikes up her skirts and snarls up to a top speed of just over 100KPH. That’s plenty strong enough for most bushveld type stuff.
It had grandad grimacing as he held on white knuckled to the “Oh Sht” handle, much to Bheki the plotweilers glee…
It’s how it gets to top speed that’s the grin inducing bit. Punch the throttle and hold on tight!
The up side of a longer vehicle is just how stable it all feels, whether you are tearing along the straights or taking a turn, you’ll battle to get her out of shape. We are really impressed with this UTV’s overall handling and, whilst the suspension is not any fancy name brand, it soaks things up really well giving the occupants a seriously soft ride. The body roll is all controllable and not over the top and the disc brakes all round make sure that you stop before you end up where you don’t want or need to be. The up side of this specific model is the fact that it is narrower than many of the other four-seaters on the market, which means that it will fit on most of the narrower trails that you might encounter. Traditionally, longer vehicles do feel harder to turn. This one’s got power steering so things turn perfectly.
A four seater does have a down side though. It’s really long, so you need a massive trailer to pull it around on. The ZFORCE 950 SPORT-4 doesn’t come close to fitting on any of ours and even our Hyundai H1 Bakkie is too short.
The other thing you need to look out for are sharp edged climbs. Because a four seater is so long, the bottom is prone to scraping along if you attack at the wrong angle or get over enthusiastic. Keep this in mind and you have a companion that will plaster a grin on your kisser every day…
Full LED lighting means that if you happen to get caught out in the dark, you can see – and you’ll be seen. Even the cab lights up like a christmas tree in the dark and there’s a lighter socket up front if you need a spot or to charge something.
So. The CFMOTO Z-force 950 Sport-4 feels well made. It is beautifully finished and it boasts all of the amenities and safety gear that you need. It’s a lot of fun for the whole family and will be a perfect work companion to get your team to site with all the tools they need.
One thing we like. On anything like this, you need to check oil and service the air filter. This ones air filter sits behind the rear passengers backrest and it’s really easy to get to. Tool free. The dipstick to check the oil is right on the rear wheel. Easy access. That’s important.
CFMOTO has a great dealer network in SA, so parts and service should be no issue.
Oh yes! It comes with a winch and towbar as standard, so if your buddy gets stuck, you can pull them out!
