Dutch master returns to winning ways as Farres and Fontanesi shine in Great Britain

The MXGP World Championship rolled into the Foxhill circuit in Great Britain, where Jeffrey Herlings reminded everyone exactly why he’s one of the greatest riders to ever throw a leg over a motocross bike.
The Dutchman was unstoppable all weekend, taking both race wins and the overall victory, while the MX2 and WMX classes delivered plenty of action of their own.
MXGP
Herlings took control throughout the premier class, taking the holeshot when it mattered and keeping the pressure off with two faultless rides. In Heat 1, He crossed the line ahead of Tim Gajser, with championship contender Romain Febvre rounding out the top three.
Adding to the drama, championship leader Lucas Coenen had a disastrous weekend. The Belgian crashed heavily in Saturday’s qualifying race and, although he lined up for Sunday’s racing, the effects of the crash took it’s toll. Coenen retired from the opening moto and failed to score before another difficult second race left him leaving Foxhill without any championship points. Despite the setback, he remains at the top of the MXGP standings heading into the next round.
Heat 2 saw Herlings repeat the performance, once again taking the win ahead of Febvre, while Gajser completed the podium positions. Unfortunately, South Africa’s Calvin Vlaanderen saw his weekend come to an abrupt end after a first-lap crash left his machine too badly damaged to continue…
Herlings’ perfect 1-1 scorecard secured the overall victory ahead of Febvre in second and Gajser in third. Vlaanderen finished 18th overall, collecting eight championship points despite a difficult second moto.

MX2
Guillem Farres who really showed the guys how it’s done during the SA round continued his impressive form with a flawless weekend, claiming victory in both motos to secure maximum points.
Heat 1 saw Farres lead Simon Längenfelder across the line, while Liam Everts completed the podium. South African Camden McLellan produced another solid ride to finish fourth.
In Heat 2, Farres once again proved untouchable, with Längenfelder finishing second. McLellan improved on his first-race result to claim a brilliant third place.
The consistent performances earned Farres the overall win ahead of Längenfelder, while McLellan celebrated a well-deserved overall third, another strong result for our Boytjie.
WMX
The Women’s Motocross World Championship also produced plenty of excitement, with Kiara Fontanesi putting together a perfect weekend at Foxhill.
The experienced Italian claimed victory in Heat 1 ahead of Courtney Duncan and Daniela Guillen before repeating the feat in Heat 2, this time with Guillen taking second and Duncan third.
Fontanesi’s double victory secured the overall win, with Guillen finishing second overall and Duncan completing the podium.
Next Stop
The MXGP paddock now heads to Loket circuit in the Czech Republic for the next round of the championship on 26 July, where another spectacular weekend of world-class motocross awaits.
