For Round 6 of the National MX Championship in Cape Town the winter relented and the riders and spectators were welcomed by a beautiful warm sunny day. The track was ready, the weather was good and the racing was even better. It was also a great day for KTM’s Factory rider Cameron Durow, who retained his number 1 status as he claimed both the MX1 and MX2 South African MX Championships.
The day kicked off with the youngsters of the MX50cc class.
MX50cc
Heat 1.
It was a good start for the 2023 Champion and Championship points leader #1 Riley Geldenhuys as he took the win. #34 Joshua-Zion Naude came through in 2nd place with #20 Luan Jordaan in 3rd.Â
Heat 2.
Making two for two and adding 50 points to his lead, Geldenhuys placed 1st, Naude kept himself in the hunt for the championship grabbing 2nd and Jordaan got 3rd.

Heat 1.
#1 Cameron Durow gave it his all and took 1st place, #81 Jayden Proctor rode well for 2nd and #135 Dean Wheeler took 3rd.Â
Heat 2.
Hitting the gas as the gates dropped the riders came flying off the start.Â
Durow took the lead and gunned for the finish line. He took the win and became a two time MX1 South African Champ. Proctor maintained his momentum and got the 2nd spot with Wheeler again in 3rd place

MX High School 125cc.
Heat 1.
Coming into the race with only two points difference between them, #444 Tristan Durow and #37 Trey Cox had a big barney.Â
Things did not work out as planned for Durow, Cox took the gap to claim himself 1st place, #247 Jean Visser took 2nd and #268 Ryan Adler came in 3rd place.

Heat 2.
Tristan Durow had better luck in Heat 2 and managed to get 4th place and 19 valuable points. It was all about the KTM Factory rider Cox – he won the race and became the new points leader. Visser placed 2nd and Adler again took 3rd spot

MX3 & MX Senior Support.
MX3.
Heat 1.
With all the right moves and lines #135 Dean Wheeler made sure of himself and took the win, #99 Levi Doherty rode his way to 2nd place and #511 Jan Ryan claimed 3rd.
Heat 2.
With another win, Wheeler took full points and kept his perfect season hopes alive.Â
Ryan had some bad luck in lap two and got a DNF. #102 Dylan Donald came through in 2nd with Doherty finishing 3rd.
MX Senior Support.
Heat 1.
#746 Adriano Catalano came off the line and stormed his way through the track to 1st place, #73 Brandon Wheeler took 2nd and #217 Aiden Rodger eased his way into 3rd.
Heat 2.
Catalano, hungry for gold kept his opposition behind him and crossed the line for the win. Wheeler grabbed himself 2nd place. #198 Adam Bac beat Rodger to the end for 3rd.

Wanting his second title, reigning champ #30 Brody Bircher kept his eye on the ball and took a comfortable 1st place. #345 Rayden Woolls fought hard and took 2nd with #85 Ross Mackenzie in 3rd.
Heat 2.
As Bircher took to the front it was Woolls and Mackenzie left to fight for 2nd place. Bircher walked home with full points extending his lead, Mackenzie Snatched 2nd with Woolls in a close 3rd.

MX Ladies.
Heat 1.
With #176 Leah Heygate threatening to deny #1 Kayla Raaff her third consecutive Championship, Raaff had to up her game and she did that by winning heat 1. Heygate pulled off a 2nd with #202 Mienke Cawood in 3rd.
Heat 2.
Raaff made her way to 1st spot to take home 50 points. Heygate with another 2nd took 44 points and still leads the Championship by just 18 points making the final round the desider. Cawood again claimed 3rd.

Heat 1.
This is the most nail biting class when it comes to championship points!Â
Look at this: #28 Evan Frost 218 points, #94 Trenton Kretzmann 215 points and #418 Cruz Martin 215 points. Frost is the reigning champ, but things were about to get serious.Â
Taking the flag in 1st place was Kretzmann followed shortly by Frost in 2nd and Martin in 3rd.
Heat 2.
Was a great dice between all the juniors but there can only be one winner and that was Kretzmann. Frost claimed 2nd withj Martin in 3rd place.Â
The points remain close and all we know is that the next round is going to be epic!

MX2.
Heat 1.
After winning the MX1 Championship, Cameron Durow pulled another one off. It all worked in his favour as he started pulling out in front, the flag came out and Durow took 1st Place.
#101 Barend du Toit claimed 2nd with #81 Jayden Proctor came in 3rd.
Heat 2.
Was a great conclusion to Durow’s weekend as he not only won the race, but he also became a three time MX2 South African Champion.Â
That’s 5 championships in 3 years!

A final word from the SA champ: “It’s been a tough year with a lot of ups and downs,” Durow commented. “I’ve learned a lot and I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my dad, my girlfriend, KTM, and all my sponsors. These championships are dedicated to them.”
What a day! There’s so much to look forward to in the final round as there are still a lot of champions to be crowned.Â
