When we went along to KTM HQ to collect it, we actually had to stop for a second. It took a few minutes of actually looking the bike over to take it all in. KTM really has built quite a magnificent beasty…
There are adventure motorcycles, and then there are motorcycles that are simply built for hard core stuff. The KTM 890 Adventure R Rally belongs firmly in the latter category.
Every line, every component, and every engineering decision tells the same story: This is a motorcycle inspired not by commuter traffic or weekend café stops, but by the world’s toughest rally races. It is the closest most riders will ever come to owning a factory Dakar machine with a number plate.
The Rally DNA

The Rally receives premium WP XPLOR PRO Cone Valve forks paired with a PRO PDS rear shock, extending suspension travel to an impressive 270 millimetres. This is suspension designed not merely to absorb bumps, but to encourage that extra twist of the throttle where lesser machines demand caution.
The down side of course is that this bike is tall. Seriously tall. That’s why we roped our friend Herman Prinsloo in to put the bike through its paces. He’s also tall and spends his life on a KTM 1290…
Built to Move
Swing a leg over the Rally and one thing becomes immediately obvious: This motorcycle expects you to stand.
The tall 910 mm Rally seat provides a flat profile that allows smooth movement from front to rear. Wide Factory Racing footpegs deliver excellent grip while standing, and every control falls naturally to hand whether you’re navigating the yumps and bumps or charging across an open field. The steering damper contributes to the experience, calming the front end when speeds rise and surfaces deteriorate.
Nothing feels ornamental. Everything has a purpose. The upgraded suspension really is a game changer.
The Heart of the Machine
Power comes from KTM’s proven 889 cc LC8c parallel-twin engine, producing 105 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque.
The engine produces broad, manageable torque exactly where an adventure riders need it most. It pulls cleanly through slow technical sections before effortlessly accelerating onto open gravel roads and highways.

Technology That Knows When to Step Aside
