It’s a social Saturday in the dead of GP’s winter. We saw the ad, paid the entry and arrived at the staging point, conveniently situated at a one stop garage near Heidelberg. The place was heaving, with bikes and quads and even adventure bikes and some of those Side by Sides.

It’s all pretty slick, its’ clear that they have done this a few times. briefing was held on the lawn just before 9 and a few people left with some great prizes sponsored by Leatt. Even a helmet was given away. Very impressive.
The mantra: Leave a dust gap echoed in our ears and we mounted our bikes. 80KM’s was the distance for a loop. All clearly marked they said – and off we went. it was a bit strange, nobody was in a rush, everyone was quite chilled – and the guys hung back to make sure that there was indeed a gap between the riders.
we saw a few tumbles in the river crossings as some riders ran out of talent (Not Our Lot), but there were always helping hands to get them out and up and running again.
We saw that the guys from Linex were out on their T7’s. While the rest of us were on dirtbikes and ATV’s, you cant help but be impressed by how easily the bigger machines coped with the ride. it was not technical, but there were a few tricky sections to negotiate…
Initially we were concerned that the big Side By Sides would get in the way and make lots of dust, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that they left at the back and helped lots of riders all along the way…
Well organised, good fun, lots of happy faces and incredibly chilled.
There’s only one complaint. The event was called Suikerbossie Saturday. we didn’t see a single suikerbossie.
Will we be back? Hell yes! it’s great to be part of such a slick event. thanks to all the farmers who opened their grounds to us. It’s amazing that there are still such great open placed close to JHB.
