On a recent trip to Mbombela, which used to be Nelspruit, just as we hit Schoemanskloof, we noticed Indabushe lodge nestled at the base of a groot mountain, offering motorcycle friendly accommodation.
We put on the brakes and wandered in to say hello.
If variety is your thing, then these guys have it in abundance, from an old farmhouse that has been converted into comfy en suite lodgings, to a container type setup with outside ablutions, equipped tents with en suite – or you can camp in well appointed camp sites with clean loo’s and hot showers.
It’s really cool, there’s a stream that babbles through the property, green grass, shady trees, Quad rentals, massive playgrounds a swimming pool, bokkies wandering around – and the best thing of all, the property is on the doorstep of all our favourite Mpumalanga routes.
Most of the lodgings are self catering, but for bigger groups, they have a friendly hall and pub setup where they can cater for you.
So if you are looking for an overnight – or if you are a bunch of riders looking for a base for a weekend of riding, it fits the bill properly and prices that won’t detract too much from petrol money.
It’s also just a lekker place to loaf if you want to take a break – and if you have rugrats, with the river, wide open playgrounds, pool and all sorts, they will be kept well entertained.
We met up with Wessel who very kindly showed us around.
His enthusiasm is infectious and his love of the place shines through.
The road in and out of the lodge is in good nick, so superbikes and cruisers will have no problems getting in or out. Go and say hello. Tell them we sent you.
To get there, you hit the Witbank freeway towards Mbombelo. Approximately 260KM from GP, on the R539, you can’t miss them on your left.
And the freeway all the way there is in perfect condition, just make allowances for toll fees.
Sabie, Dullstroom, Nelspruit, Kaapsehoop, Barberton are all within easy riding distance for the weekend.
