Riders gathered at Rooiberg Lodge in he Cape for an event packed with good riding, friendly competition, and a bit of luck for one fortunate winner. Hosted by Honda and Cape Adventure Bike Challenge, with sponsorship from Honda and Honda Wing George, the weekend offered a mix of riding routes, skills challenges, and a standout prize—a Honda CRF 125, which went home with lucky draw winner Andrew De Bruin.
Three Routes.
Riders had three options, each offering a different kind of challenge:
- Red Route – A tougher ride designed for those who wanted to push their limits.
- Orange Route – A balanced mix of technical and open terrain.
- Plastic Bike Route – A playground for lightweight off-road machines, designed to test skill and control.
For many, this event was more than just a ride—it was a learning experience. As one rider put it:
“Everything I thought I knew about riding was turned upside down! Gravel is a whole different game compared to the road. But wow, was it FUN! A few falls, some bruises on my leg, but when you’re having that much fun, you just laugh, pick up your bike, and keep going.” – Michael De Beer
Skills Challenge & Barrel Racing
Beyond the open trails, riders got the chance to put their abilities to the test in skills challenges and barrel racing. From navigating tough terrain to pushing for that perfect tight turn in barrel racing, the competition was fierce and the entertainment nonstop.
“Modern-day cowboys in action!” – Michael De Beer on the barrel racing
The Big Prize
The highlight of the event was the lucky draw, where Andrew De Bruin walked away with a brand-new Honda CRF 125, courtesy of Honda Wing George. A life-changing moment for any rider, and proof that sometimes, the best surprises come on two wheels.
The Journey & The Camaraderie
Beyond the thrills of riding, the weekend reminded everyone why the motorcycle community is special. From shared laughs at the lodge to unexpected moments of kindness—like a stranger paying a toll gate fee when a rider’s phone failed. This event was a reminder that the road (or gravel) is always better with good people around.
