Get Lost Adventure
Early Morning Start from Redstar Raceway...

Get Lost. Words often uttered by wives who are annoyed with husbands, Girlfriends who need a break – and such people. Men, on the other hand, are far too afraid to utter such thoughts, so very often, they do that and just – Get Lost.

This event has been brewing for quite some time – the basic idea was to take a group of adventure bike enthusiasts and give them a real South African experience. A trip through some very unvisited parts of South Africa with like minded people. All the while, the intention was to raise some funds for people who need them – and Huis Remme Los in Germiston, a place of safety for people with disabilities was nominated.

This is not a tough, hardcore adventure. It’s a ride, a beautiful ride and the intention is that anyone can do it and have a blast while you are at it.

Just the wide open spaces that SA has on offer...

A chilly bunch arrived at Redstar Raceway on an early Friday morning. Breakfast was had, basic briefings were sorted and it was clutch-out for – what many people have described as “A four day adventure of a lifetime.”

This is one helluva ride. Not seriously technical, about 80 percent gravel, 20 percent tar, a 1500KM round trip and you are surrounded by the beauty that is South Africa.

There was one sand monster that caught a few riders out… but that’s part of it all and interestingly, it’s the most talked about section of the ride.

Our team took a variety of bikes along. Suzuki loaned Donovan Fourie that DRZ 4 – S – which is like cheating really, despite the fact that he still managed to take it for a swim…

3 lady riders were along. Corinne Andrews was popped into the saddle of a little 250 V-Strom – and if you thought the DRZ is about cheating, try a little bike, it’s even easier. She sailed through the whole ride and many a big ADV machine with a big smile on her kisser.

Tristan Foley took along the latest Honda Transalp and he breezed it through.

It took the guys three brilliant days to arrive on the beach in Zinkwazi – and the dusty smiles said it all. It’s all about the riding, the braais, the prizegivings, the laughs, the bench racing and of course – getting out to see the country that we live in.

Here are a few words from some of the participants:

It was a fantastic trip thank you Team…

Every one of the five in my group agreed that it’s the best adventure ride we’ve ever done. You and your team as always did an absolutely SPECTACULAR job!

“As I sit here with sore joints and stiff muscles all I can say is thank you 1000 times. My head is clear and rested, my soul is full from riding my motorbike in the most unbelievable places of South Africa, and my heart is full with the ability to help the Remme Los home.

You took me to the middle of nowhere and then took me further. The views and scenery I saw this past weekend was truly indescribable. Just when you thought you were getting to know the terrain, bam, turn left into something new.

If I could sign up now for next year I would.

A massive thank you to all that were involved and for sorting out the logistics. Truly bucket list riding.

Now that is adventure riding!!!!!!”

Suzuki SA sent a squadron of Jimneys along as backup...

So – the idea was to raise some much needed fundig for Remme Los, in addition to having an adventure. A portion of each entry fee was donated and goods were auctioned all along the trail. The participants were generous and almost R100 000 was raised.
