Round 1 Roars to Life at Heuningsneskloof

The 2026 Western Cape Offroad Series got off to a great start this past weekend as Round 1 unfolded at the scenic and demanding Heuningsneskloof track just outside Caledon. With perfect weather conditions, riders, supporters, and organizers were treated to a day that truly showcased the growth and passion within the sport.

From the youngest riders to the most seasoned competitors, the event catered for all levels with a well-designed track layout. A 3km PW50 course allowed the future stars to shine, while the 19km junior route tested developing talent. The 31km senior track proved to be both technical and rewarding, pushing riders to their limits across the rugged terrain.

The event attracted notable names in the offroad and motocross community, including South African motocross legend David Goosen and experienced competitor Jan Ryan, adding prestige and excitement to an already competitive field.

Leading the charge on the day was Wade Rodger Lund, who delivered an exceptional performance aboard his Husqvarna FX. Lund dominated the field, securing the overall victory in Regional Open Bikes, Overall Club Bikes, and Senior Club Bikes categories, a remarkable achievement that set the tone for the season ahead.

In the highly competitive 200cc class, Jamie Berry powered his Honda to victory, demonstrating both speed and consistency with Nicol Smit following in 2nd place after a magnificent race on his Husqvarna 250.

Meanwhile, Wiehahn Du Plessis impressed on his KTM 125 XC, clinching top honors in both the regional and club classes with a standout ride.

In the Open bikes class AJ Louw amazed us with racing his Husqvarna FX350 for the very first time and winning the class.

The junior categories delivered plenty of excitement, with Hanro Basson taking top position in the 85cc class after a strong and controlled performance. In the 65cc division, Logan Crous secured the win, followed closely by Liam Janse van Noordwyk in second place, highlighting the depth of young talent in the region.

The future of the sport was on full display in the PW50 category, where former club champion Hendrik Swart claimed victory, with Emma Coetzee finishing an impressive second, a promising sign for the next generation of riders.

In the quad class, Anton van der Berg rode to victory, while the Masters category saw Lourens Kamfer deliver a composed and experienced performance to take the win.

Round 1 at Heuningsneskloof was more than just a race, it was a celebration of offroad racing in the Western Cape. With strong participation, competitive racing across all classes, and a growing community of riders and supporters, the series is clearly on an upward trajectory.
