Dates have been announced for The Roof Of Africa, one of SA’s best loved events. 20th to the 22nd of November is where we are looking.
Locally, organisers are facing increasingly stiff competition from the likes of Impi and, most recently RideAfrica, an event to be hosted by multiple Roof Of Africa champ Wade Young on the 6th to the 8th of November in Underberg. It will be interesting to see how entries do for the next event – and die-hard Roof fans are all watching with great interest.
We’ll keep you posted as and when more info trickles through.
There is more news. Pro Touch Global, an international outfit who are the current promoters of The Roof Of Africa have secured the contract to run the World Hard Enduro series which stalled when the KTM group had to withdraw their sponsorship of the series.
This is pretty huge!
Great news for The Roof is that it will finally be incorporated into the series, a move that has been talked about for a very long time.
With South Africans at the helm we’ll say it again – for a small country, we do box above our weight class.
To date, seven rounds have been announced for the series, starting on the 10th of May at the Valleys Hard Enduro in Wales. Things, however still need to be firmed up and are constantly changing.
Provisional 2025 HEWC calendar:
10-11 May – Valleys Hard Enduro (UK)
12-14 June – Silver Kings (USA)
6-7 September – Abestone (Italy) (* in negotiation)
20-21 September – Hixpania (Spain)
9-11 October – Sea to Sky (Turkey)
24-25 October – Getzen Rodeo (Germany)
20-22 November – Roof of Africa (Lesotho)
Some fresh news is that two of the largest international Hard Enduro competitions will not be joining the series. Their plan is to join forces to award two categories of World Championship titles; an Extreme enduro rallye World Champion will be crowned at the 2025 Red Bull Romaniacs and an Extreme enduro World Champion will be crowned at the 2025 Red Bull Erzbergrodeo.
The little gremlin with the HEWC that we can see looming is the fact that most riders who were planning to do the HEWC series in 2025 had to change plans when things changed, so we hope that the new promoters are able to steady the ship and get the numbers.
It’s great news for the sport that we all love and, the fact that The Roof Of Africa is included is a giant boon for racing in Southern Africa. Let’s hope that we see some international superstars heading to the Mountain Kingdom.
We’ll see you there – look out for our team somewhere on the passes.
