There’s that song that goes: “I get by with a little help from my friends”.
That’s the case with the fantastic organization that is the Sunfields Home in Fortuna. They care for around seventy people who have physical and mental disabilities. Their government stipend that they receive doesn’t even come close to covering the bills and basics every month.
To that end, about twenty years ago, the guys from The Adventure Company approached the Fortuna Resort and land owners all around the home in order to host a ride to help them along. The Sunfields ride was born.
Participants (There were loads of them this year) all gathered at Fortuna resort for a cup of coffee and a chinwag. Gifts were piled into bakkies, Side By Sides and trailers and there’s a short mass ride up the gravel road to the home.
Just a big thank you from all of us to all of you!
There’s never a dry eye, the residents line up, sing Christmas carols and clap hands as the goodies are all offloaded and delivered into the lounge. It’s not traditional gifts, but basic necessities that are sorely needed.
A seriously cool initiative.
From the home, two lekker outrides are marked out for the riders and peeps head off to enjoy the beautiful surrounding farmlands, complete with some seriously gnarly stuff for the rock hoppers.
It’s a great way to start the Christmas Season.
Lots of fun while lending a helping hand at the same time.
