We decided to give the company Triumph XCX a bit of love the other day and invested in a set of GIVI Crash bars for the bike.
Why? You might ask. The bike comes standard with crash bars to start with.
Yes, that’s true, however, the standard bars only protect the bottom of the engine. So if you happen to own a Triumph Tiger 800 XCX – or are considering a pre-owned machine, please read this:
The most common breakage when these bikes fall over is the plastic cover on the fuel tank, because it’s the widest point and it is there to protect the tank.Â
All good and well, HOWEVER.
When that cover breaks, it also cracks the side panel.
Ours broke. The cost of that little plastic cover literally made our eyes water.
So. Once we procured a used replacement, we figured we’d look into a better option to protect the system and we called on the guys who import GIVI.
The Givi Bars extend right up the tank, so if the bike takes a tumble or falls over, they absorb the impact and not the plastics.
The crash bars are supplied complete with all brackets, spacers and bolts – and even instructions in Italian and Engish.Â
But: Fitment is a chore and if you are not mechanically minded, we’d recommend asking your dealer to do it or you. We are clever oakes here and it still took around two hours – partly because you have to remove so many panels and things from the bike.
The GIVI crash bars offer a lot more protection than the standard crash bars. Especially for the pricey plastics.
But absolutely worthwhile. Fit and finish is perfect and they do look rather fetching!
GIVI does make some excellent products and crash bars are in stock for most popular models.Â
These ones cost us R3250.00
