The guys from Bikewise, the Pirelli motorcycle Tyre Distributors for Southern Africa hosted a track day at the famous Ridgeway (Formerly Chestnut) MX track out near Rayton to launch their latest MX tyre.
We went along to catch the action and catch up with the news on the latest MX 32 Mid-Soft Technology from this rubber giant. What’s very interesting is the fact that this is the first time that Pirelli has updated this design since way back, when Stefan Everts was still world champ.
“The development of the new SCORPION MX32 MID SOFT includes new materials and compounds. Both the tread area and the sidewall compounds have been improved. The completely redesigned tread incorporates a compound designed to offer very high grip, durability and traction in difficult conditions.
The front sidewalls feature an updated compound, designed to provide greater flexibility and strength, contributing to better performance. By leveraging these advanced materials, the new tyre meets the rigorous demands of modern motocross.”
The track was literally heaving with guys and girls all out for a day in the Gauteng sunshine, enjoying the laps and the general comradery associated with the MX community.
Pirelli and Bikewise had their tyre changing team sweating out in the sun as riders came in to swap rubber.
It was a carnival festival with people laughing, bikes taking laps and the smell of two-stroke in the air. Ridgeway Racebar had their Pizza wagon out – proper lekker – and another highlight for the day.
Is there anything better?
We saw lots of familiar faces taking to the track aboard the KTM demo bikes in order to give the new tyres a workout – and everyone we spoke to was very complimentary about the new knobblies.

When you consider how much was going on in the world of Dirt on the weekend, we were very impressed by all of the happy faces that we saw out there.
Perfect weather, bright sunny skies, great KTM demo bikes to ride, lekker people and brand new technology to sample…
