Midlands has some pretty cool products in their lineup. You may have seen our quick look at their BTX 2 intercom system, we are quite happy with that so far, keep an eye out here for a full long term review coming in the near future.
DMD sent along their midrange Midlands H5 Pro cam for us to play with – and we did just that – you can watch the FTR 1200 vid on our YouTube channel to get an idea and we also tried it out on other bikes in different conditions.
Controls are very similar to more expensive, established brands and pretty much most similar action cams on the market these days with a power button and one button to record.Â
Two extra buttons on the side select or deselect WiFi, (for remote use via the DV King 4k app on your phone), and a second button to turn the microphone on or off.Â
For bike stuff, that’s cool because you can shoot while you ride and it’s silent for voice overs and all that. Ours came with a waterproof case, so you can take it swimming with you.
The App is also pretty cool allowing you to control the camera from your and switching between photo and video on the fly. You can also view the gallery of images and videos you have taken on your phone screen and then download them directly into your phone’s gallery.
The lens gives a fairly decent angle, so you can see a lot of what’s going on. The rear LCD display tells you what the camera is up to – it’s all pretty simple and logical to use.
Battery life is actually pretty impressive.
For home or hobby use, picture quality and stability in 1080p/60 frames per second is reasonable. You can film in 4k for better quality, but your files will be huge.
For more serious filming, you’ll need to look at their higher spec stuff but, all in this one does what it says on the box.
