I have been told so many stories and watched so many videos of King of the Whip, never getting a chance to go to the event. Now being a part of Dirt & Trail Magazine I had my chance.

Pulling up to Montecasino I started to tingle. I parked my bike, got my gear and made my way to the gates. A feeling that so many people tried to describe to me started to make sense, actually their descriptions did not justify the feeling. It got better as I walked to the table where the friendly lady was sitting offering me assistance. “I am from Dirt & Trail Magazine ” I said with a grin on my face. She pulled out the clipboard and there it is, my name on the list. The grin quickly turned into a smile as she wrapped the bright green media armband around my wrist. I thanked her and disappeared into the crowd.

WOW!
So many people, all smiling and laughing just building the titillation to near explosion. Truly amazing to see so many pumped up people filled with exhilaration for what was to come. The grand stands were almost overflowing, I am sure I did not see a single open slot. Luckily for me I got to go beyond the barriers and into the pit/rider’s area. Acting all professional it was so, so very hard not to start running, jumping and giggling like a little kid.
A packed grandstand and hordes of people in the general standing area the show was electrifying.Â
Me, well I had one of the best spots in the entire place. I got to be right up front and in the middle of what is called a show, still think they should invent a better word.
Van Stippen. Always makes time or his legion of fans. This year he put on such a great display of talent.
I was over the moon walking around so much talent and legends, local and International. Things couldn’t get better.Â
WRONG! It did, a lot.
Pinyol. A class act.
When that first engine fired up and the legion of supporters came alive and the echo of exhilaration made my blood boil.Â
Crouching down to take my first photo I was so close that I felt the rumble of the bike as it passed me, up the ramp and into the air. The more whips the guys pulled off the echoes almost canceled the beautiful noises of the bikes.

Unbelievably the later it got the better it got!
Now it wasn’t merely a spectacular display of world class whips and Freestyle Motocross, the show itself was a jaw dropping extravaganza. Some of the highest quality stunts being pulled off in midair by some of the most premier riders was not enough?
No! They added fire and pyrotechnics to the show just to make it impossible for a single soul out there to feel nothing but utter enjoyment and revel in the moment.

DAMN!!
This is 25 years of FMX experience. Edgar Torronteras
I can go on and on to try and explain not just how I felt and how the FMX army of supporters felt. It is impossible. It is one of those unexplained phenomena that has to be added to your bucket list.Â
So, PLEASE take my word and start planning ASAP to get your hands-on King of the Whip 2024 tickets.
Â
It will take me another few days to get my breath back. Hope to see all of you in 2024.
And last but not least Ryan van der Spuy and his team from LW Mag.
Thank you so very much for the invite and for a lack of a better word, well done on yet another extremely successful event.Â
All the best to LW Mag for 2024 in their passion to bring bike sports to the people.
