My very first time.

I had the privilege to represent Dirt & Trail at the Inland MX Championship at Terra Topia. This was an incredible experience, not only that it was my first time under the Dirt & Trail Banner it was also a new experience for me covering motocross.Â
I come from a road racing background. Taking photos of cars and motorbikes alike, visiting tracks such as Zwartkops, Red Star and Kyalami for RideFast Magazine to name a few. Also following the SASCS where I get to see the guys sliding their motards into the corners and watching the kids taking to the track…
None of that had prepared me for what I was in for on this race day.
It was a new experience that took me by surprise. No grid positions but gate spots. No three rows behind one another but all in a line next to each other. It was fascinating to see the gate drop and everyone pushing to be the first to enter the turn and come out in front. It all sounds the same in road racing, but trust me it is not the same at all.Â
Seeing everyone come off a straight line attacking one corner almost simultaneously took my breath away.
Things after the start and the first corner got even more mind boggling. Riders came face to face with a jump that sent them flying through the air. After landing they have a corner to attack but not just any corner, a muddy corner full of ruts. They turn on the edge of the berms while navigating through the deep ruts and powering out, just to hit another jump. It is crazy and exciting all at once.

Motocross and road racing might be two different sports, but one thing remains the same.
The fans. Out in full force braving the cold mornings just to show their support and give that extra motivation to the riders. What a day! What an amazing experience it was. Â
I for one, cannot wait for the next round on the 5 August at Dirt Bronco.
So, as a new member to the Motocross family, I thank everyone who welcomed me and I will see you again at Round 7 to have my mind blown once again.Â
Until then, keep it safe and keep it pinned.
