Being a bit of a long, tall guy, my hands are quite large and finding properly fitting, comfortable riding gloves is sometimes a challenge, so when I do find a nicely fitting pair of gloves I do tend to hang on to them for many, many years and cobble them back together whenever they start showing signs of wear and tear.Â
So, when I found these reasonably priced gloves, I made sure I got myself a pair.
They have an extremely comfortable and breathable wool type liner that seems to moderate the temperature quite well. During the cool morning my hands were comfortably warm and then during the muggy midday tropical heat of the Lowveld my hands did not get sweaty or hot.Â
The outer construction material is a fibre type fabric knit that is very breathable. What these two fabrics do together is make for a comfortable fit.
The fingers do seem to be pre shaped or curved to a natural hand shape further enhancing the comfort and the gloves have a nice soft leather palm which gives you quite a bit of proper feeling on the grips. I was a little concerned about the durability of the of the soft leather, (Nubuck cowhide I think they call it), if I ever ended up sliding down terrafirma on my hands, (which I did actually end up doing), but then I noticed two strategically placed hard plastic buffers on each palm, right at the point of impact on the heel of the palm. They definitely do assist with protection in the event of a tumble, as do the moulded knuckle protector and moulded finger protectors. The stitching is tough too. In my humble opinion the designers of the Tankwa product range do seem to understand the South African biker and fabricate their products equally as tough.
