South African motocross riders, we’ve got a little challenge for you.
Instead of spending the end of December sitting at home, loading the family into the bakkie and heading back to the same old holiday spot, why not point the vehicle west and head for Swakopmund, Namibia?
On 27 December 2026, Swakopmund Motocross is putting on what promises to be one hell of a holiday-season MX event and riders from South Africa, Namibia and beyond are invited to come and join the fun.
And this isn’t an event where you need to arrive with a factory-supported race team and a bike worth more than your house.
Everybody is welcome. All makes, all models and all levels of rider.
From the little 50cc Juniors just discovering the joy of racing, through to WMX, Open Class, Clubmans and Veterans, there is a place on the starting line.
So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to take the bike across the border, this is it.
Race It – Then Enjoy Namibia
The beauty of an event like this is that it doesn’t have to be just about racing.
Swakopmund is one of those places that makes a bloody good destination even when there isn’t a motorcycle involved. Throw a dirt bike into the equation and things get considerably better.
Make a trip of it.
Bring the family. Bring the mates. Bring the bikes.
Race on the 27th, then spend some time exploring the coast, the desert and everything that makes Namibia such a unique place to visit.
And if you’re coming from South Africa, you’re already halfway to having one heck of a road trip.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
For riders wanting to compete, a racing license for the day costs R350 and Race entry is R950, with the necessary arrangements needing to be made with the local racing authorities.
And yes, all makes and models are welcome.
This is about getting riders together, throwing some dirt and having a proper old-school racing weekend, not worrying about what colour your bike is or whose logo is plastered across your jersey.
And then there’s More…
If you’re already making the trip, don’t rush home.
On 28 December, the action continues with the Swakopmund Dirt Drags & Rally Sprint – putting the four-wheel crowd into the spotlight.
So you’ve got two days of motorsport, with motocross on Sunday followed by dirt drags and rally sprint action on Monday.
Two days. Two wheels and four wheels. One bloody good reason to visit Swakopmund.Â
The organisers have already announced the 28 December event as the Dirt Drags & Rally Sprint, with the event information currently listing a 06:30 start and N$50 gate entry.
SO, WHO’S COMING?
This is the bit where we reckon the South African motocross community needs to get involved.
If you’ve got a 50, 65, 85, 125, 250, 450 or anything in between sitting in the garage, start thinking about loading it up.
Namibia isn’t that far.
And once you’re there, you’re not just going to a race, you’re going on an adventure.
So, South African riders, take up arms, load the bikes and head for Swakopmund.
Race hard.
Take the family exploring.
Meet some Namibian riders.
Make some new friends.
Then come back and tell us why you didn’t do it sooner.
Swakopmund Motocross – 27 December 2026.
