Round 2 of the Northern Regions Motocross Championship headed to Legends MX Track, where riders, teams and supporters rolled through the gates early on Saturday morning ready for a great day of racing.
With the track prepped, marshals in position and medics standing by, it did not take long before the first bikes fired into life and the action got underway. Riders delivered proper motocross racing throughout the day.
MX125cc.
The MX125cc class opened the racing and immediately set the tone for the day. #418 Cruz Martin took control in Heat 1 ahead of #280 Kabelo Ledwaba and #37 Deruk Van Aswegen. Heat 2 saw #300 Trent Valsecchi bounced back strongly after a DNF in the opening race to claim the win ahead of Martin and Ledwaba. Consistency paid off, with Martin securing the overall victory.

MX3 Vets & Senior Support.
The MX3 Vets and Senior Support classes shared the track and produced plenty of close racing. In MX3 Vets, #73 Brandon Wheeler was unstoppable, taking victory in both heats ahead of #15 Jonathan Du Plooy and #94 Keegan Du Plooy. Wheeler’s clean sweep earned him the overall.
Senior Support belonged to #143 Chad Taylor, who also completed a perfect day with two heat wins. #64 Shayne Steenkamp and #21 Riccardo Caforio kept the pressure on throughout the day, but Taylor’s pace proved difficult to match. Riccardo Caforio secured second overall, with Shayne Steenkamp rounding out the podium.

MX Ladies.
The MX Ladies class showcased just how competitive women’s motocross has become in South Africa.
#349 Young Mackenzie Bam put together a flawless performance with two commanding race wins, while #16 Kelly Beetge and #128 Zoe Botha matched each other lap for lap behind her. The overall podium mirrored the heat results.

In the always entertaining MX50cc class, #11 Gianno Ferreira continued to impress with a dominant double victory. #112 Logan Fulton and #18 Garry Hamer traded positions between the heats in a spirited battle for second overall, with Fulton eventually edging ahead of Hamer in the final standings.

The MX2 class delivered some of the fastest racing of the day.
#337 Slade Smith was in incredible form, taking both heat wins ahead of #81 Jayden Proctor. #300 Trent Valsecchi claimed third in Heat 1, while #141 Christian Berrington-Smith fought through for third in Heat 2. Smith’s perfect score secured the overall ahead of Proctor and Berrington-Smith.

MX85cc saw #234 Cassie van Zyl put together one of the standout performances of the event. He controlled both heats from the front ahead of #345 Rayden Woolls and #40 Hendrico Barwise, securing maximum points and the overall victory.

The MX65cc riders kept spectators entertained with tight racing and plenty of determination. #66 Mikah Hendrickse emerged as the rider to beat after winning both heats. #104 Richard Smith, #117 Trey Dean and #30 Brayden Tucker all featured near the front throughout the day.
But Hendrickse is just too fast at the moment.

The premier MX1 class closed out the day with some serious intensity. #337 Slade Smith capped off a near-perfect outing with another double heat victory, firmly establishing himself as the rider to beat. #81 Jayden Proctor and #717 Calum Marriott battled hard in Heat 1, while Marriott returned in Heat 2 to secure second place ahead of #24 Mark James Carty. Overall honours went to Slade Smith, with Calum Marriott second and Mark James Carty third.
