Great Ride Incomng! An epic trip over the long weekend in August…

Go on – do it! That’s the name of the latest ADV ride conjured up by The Adventure Company and Dirt And Trail Magazine, you know – those guys who came up with epic events like Quads 4 Quads, Swazi Mangala and Tri Nations?

Well now they are planning something for Adventure riders.

What is the Get lost Adventure?

The Get Lost Adventure is a three day adventure ride from The Redstar Raceway all the way down to Zikwazi in KZN. 80 percent dirt, it is open to all adventure machines but you need to have a number plate.

This is a fundraising ride for the Remme Los home for people with disabilities (www.remme-los.co.za). We are going to see if we can raise some much needed funding or the home.

Suzuki SA, Scorpion Helmets, Bic South Africa, Michelin Tyres, Tork Craft SA, The Bike Show, Dirt And Trail Online, RideFast Online and Honda SA are already involved with sponsorship, but please – the more the merrier. You’ll get a tax certificate for any donations made.

“Without overdoing it – we had ten riders of all skill levels along on the recce and they are all blown away by the quality of the trails. It’s not hard enduro. It’s all rideable and we’ll show you parts of this country that you have never seen before.”

Dates:

The plan is to kick off from Redstar on Friday the 7th of August, arriving in Zinkwazi on Sunday the 9th. Monday is a holiday so you can head for home on Monday. We are also trying to arrange that, if you like, you can book in at Redstar for Thursday evening… might make sense.

Who can come?

On our recce, the smallest bike was a little Suzuki DS250. The largest was a KTM 1290 Super adventure. They all made it on each day – no problem. This is not a bike breaker.

Is the ride pillion friendly?

Large sections are, some sections are not unless you REALLY know what you are up to.

Tyre choice:

No rain is expected, and you’ll need to ride home as well as ride some of the tar passes, so we suggest a 50/50 tread. You can go more aggressive but your tyres will be kaput!

Where do we go?

Four provinces, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Freestate and to the beach in KZN. This is a GPS event. We will give you day-by-day GPX files. So you’ll need a GPS.

Accommodation:

Book a spot in or around Zinkwazi on Sunday the 9th.

August is still chilly, so we’ll sort accommodation. We are chatting to Redstar about a Kuier and possible sleepover at Redstar for the night before we leave…then we’ll sort hotel accommodation for you on Friday and Saturday Night. It’s all good, lekker spots.

We’ll also sort the catering from Friday morning through to Sunday evening – closing off with a lekker dinner and prizegiving near the beach.

Fuel:

We will ensure that there is a fuel stop in range of any adventure bike at garages, so carry cash or a fuel card.

Backup:

We will have limited backup, marshals trailers and medics along. Suzuki SA has offered to assist with the carrying of luggage and all that from Redstar, so you won’t have to carry all your stuff.

413 Racing in KZN will have a workshop set up going at the half way mark for any repairs.

If you have a tubeless bike, carry a puncture kit, hydration pack and tools specific to your bike.

We will have a vehicle with general tools running at the back of the pack.

But if you ride lekker, you won’t need any.
