The 2026 MSA South African National Enduro Championship rolled into the Western Cape this past weekend, with Round 2 hosted by the CSMX Enduro Club on 4 April at a brand-new venue, the Elgin Grabouw Country Club.
With no prior race history for CSMX at the venue, the weekend carried a sense of the unknown, and it didn’t disappoint.
For CSMX, this marked a fresh chapter. Bringing a new venue onto the national calendar is no small task, but the Grabouw terrain delivered exactly what enduro racing demands; variety, challenge, and the kind of unpredictability that keeps riders on edge from start to finish.Â
A well-crafted route wound its way through a mix of flowing sections, tighter technical terrain, and classic Western Cape conditions that required riders to stay sharp and adapt quickly.
The pace at the front was relentless, with championship contenders already feeling the pressure of early-season points, while across the classes E1, E2, E3, High School, Pro 85, and Ladies, riders pushed hard to make their mark on unfamiliar ground.
As the day unfolded, the true nature of the course began to show. What initially felt fast and manageable started to take its toll, with technical sections becoming more demanding and fatigue creeping in. Consistency proved to be the deciding factor, separating those who could maintain control and rhythm from those caught out by the ever-changing conditions.Â
It was a proper test of enduro. Not just speed, but endurance, focus, and resilience.
Spectators gathered at key sections around the course, adding energy to the race and backing riders through some of the more challenging features. The atmosphere around the venue reinforced what makes the sport so special, a shared passion, and an appreciation for the effort it takes to get to the finish.
With Round 2 now complete, the 2026 championship is beginning to take shape.Â
Early points are on the board, and performances in Grabouw could prove significant as the season progresses.
CSMX Enduro Club delivered a professional and well-executed event, successfully introducing a new venue to the national stage.Â
With the backing of national partners like Red Bull, Tork Craft, Trademore Sherco Racing, and Yamaha South Africa, the event highlighted the continued growth and strength of enduro racing in South Africa.
