The freeway out to Redstar Raceway was especially busy, with hordes of motorcycles coming and going all weekend long.Â
We arrived at Red Star where we were greeted by the glorious sight of multitudinous motorcycles, vastly varied in manufacturers. And that was just in the parking areas.
According to organisers, the 2026 AMID Show saw around 6500 people through the gates who had a great time ogling at all the latest machines, accessories and other goodies on display. It’s a day for riders to reconnect and for the motorcycle industry as a whole to get together and showcase their lineups, drive sales and make connections.
Taking a walk down the pits at Redstar there was such a selection of motorbikes to gawk at from all the major brands and importers in SA. Too many motorcycle and accessory suppliers to keep track of. As deadpool says: Maximum Effort!Â
The traditional players like Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Honda, Yamaha, Triumph, BMW, Can Am, Polaris and Linhai were all there.
There were also some relatively new kids on the block in the form of Royal Enfield, CFMOTO, the Tromox Electric bikes and also the brand-new-to SA QJMOTOR brandwith their rather large range of motorcycles and a monster 1000cc ATV.Â
The impressive looking new BRC range of side by sides were also on display.Â
The economical Kayo brandwas also well represented.
KTM took the opportunity to unveil the new 1390 Adventure EVO-S and the new RC9… more on those soon, they do look amazing.Â
Husqvarna, GasGas… ah yes! You do need a motorcycle or two in your life!
Suzuki’s DR-Z lineup was front and centre, along with the gorgeous new road going GSX-8T and TT. More on those in RideFast Online soon.
Yamaha had everything from T7’s to MT’s on display…
Honda had everything from Fireblades to Hornets to dirtikes and ATV’s out in the sunshine.
People gawped at the latest dirtbikes and ADV machines from Triumph.
There was a great big splat of red at the Beta tent with their range on display.
Tromox had their futuristic electric bikes including the MC10 dirtbike catching the eyes of all the older biker uncles trying to figure out how something moves so quickly, so silently.
A massive convoy of Cancervive supporters arrived – each donating R100 to the organisation. Too cool!Â
All the while, in the background, Suzuki Motorcycles had their safety day in full swing with a constant flow of bikes circulating on the twisty Redstar track. It was absolutely, a brilliant day for petrol heads.
Coming Soon...
What would life be without Kawasaki and their great bikes…
So you get it? There was a lot to see.
Helmets, tyres, rider gear, boots, gloves, travel equipment…. All on display.
We perused exhibits from a multitude of other motorcycle manufacturers, as well as a wide selection of kit, enough to satisfy just about every taste imaginable.
The Insta 360 camera guys were there with a plethora of camera gadgets fit for any motorcycle enthusiast to capture the magic of their breakfast runs or camping trips. They also showed off their new 360 drone – it is seriously cool.
Good food, good company and great bikes and motorcycle goodies left everyone spoiled everyone to a great day out.
Add some good food, friendly stall-people, and a round of refreshing milkshakes to round off the day, and one couldn’t ask for much more.
Except maybe remembering our hats and sunscreen next time, in order to avoid being Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer for a week after.
If you weren’t at AMID this year, we are sorry you missed it but make sure you swing around next time. Entrance was free and great times were bountiful. It is events like these that make the motorbike industry a fantastic one to be in.
