Rain is a strange thing. When you want some, it’s nowhere to be seen. When you really need sunshine, it doesn’t cease. And on this day that was the case. You know the drill, a perfect summers day blue skies and not a cloud in sight. Come 12 bells on the highveld and the clouds gather, lightning strikes and before you can blink, you are soaked to the core…
It happens to us. A lot. And we often watch as other riders smugly reach into top boxes and satchels to extract their rain suits while we pass comments about being tough…
Riding wet is not so lekker and sitting in a cozy pub waiting for the rain to stop, soaked to the bone is also no fun.
Heading on our rounds the other day, the skies opened, traditional riding jeans, TCX shoes and leather jacket were soon pretty drenched. Pulled into one of the dealerships. Hung everything out to dry and proceeded to defrost with many cups of coffee in front of the heater waiting for the rain to at least tap off a little.
“Sir. Why don’t you have a rain suit? Surely, by now, you understand Gauteng weather in summer?”
Mumble mumble “Smartass”, “Only delivery riders wear them…” and all the while, the rain continued as the steam rose off the drying gear.
Glancing around the accessory stands, the Metalize rack caught our eye – and on the rack, lo and behold was a compact little bag titled “Rainsuit”.
Considering that the clobber we were wearing was just about dry and also that the rain showed no sign of letting up, we relented and bought one.
Shoulda done it years ago!
The two piece suit slips over your gear.
Zips at the bottom of the pant legs mean that you don’t need to remove your boots in order to get them on in a hurry. A drawstring around your waist holds them up.
A set of booties is included to fit over your riding boots.
The jacket is a good cut, has two big waterproof pockets that velcro shut for your phone and wallet and the neck closes snuggly beneath your lid and helps stop the rain from sneaking in, dribbling down your torso and wetting your shirt and riding jacket.
The jacket also has adjuster tabs around the waist so that you don’t flap and slap around in the wind.
Hi Viz Reflective strips are tastefully distributed throughout.
It stops the wind. It stops the rain.
It wraps up small so that you can stash it easily on your person or bike.
Go and get one, we guarantee you’ll need it sometime…
